Weekly Foundational Read-Aloud:

When I Was Little: A Four-year-olds Memoir of Her Youth by Jamie Lee Curtis

The YouTube Link to the weekly Read-Aloud is located: HERE

Questions to ask your child in response to the read-aloud:

What are some ways you are different now than when you were little?

What are some ways you are the same now as when you were little?

Learn at Home activity for today:

How Have I Grown?

Tell your child how long, or approximately how long, s/he was at birth. Measure out a piece of string or ribbon of this length. Then, measure your child with a piece of string or ribbon of a contrasting color. Compare the two lengths and talk about how much bigger they are now than when s/he was born. Use words such as longer and shorter throughout the activity.

Quiet Music:

Invite children to play instruments quietly in a manner that might calm a baby or encourage a baby to go to sleep.

Take a Trip:
Take a pretend trip with your child. Consider where you will go, how you will get there, and how you feel about going on this trip together. Work together to find or make the things you need for your trip. After preparing for your trip, pretend to go on the trip together.

Write a Letter:
Invite your child to write a letter to someone. They can draw pictures to create the letter, use their own writing, or share their words with you and you can write for them. If your child chooses to write on their own, celebrate any mark they make. Marks, scribbles, and creative spelling are all essential steps in learning to write. If possible, share the letter with the person your child wrote to.

Stories:
Share a story with your child about something from their past. Among other things, this could be a story about the first time your child did something new, a funny story about an experience or a time when your child made you proud

 Continued Weekly Activity

Timeline:

Talk about important milestones in your child’s life and create a timeline that reflects a few of these experiences. Think of two to four noteworthy events in the child’s past such as when a child was born or took his/her first steps, began school or an important family event such as a new home or sibling, etc. You can draw or include pictures on the timeline!                          Email or text pictures of any completed work to: msserbonescovid19@gmail.com
