                      What are babies?

Focused Learning Activity for this Week

           How tall is the baby?

The teacher will work with students in the math center to measure cutout babies of various lengths. Students will be encouraged to use unifix cubes to measure each baby. Students will discuss how many cubes each baby measured, and which was the longest and shortest.

Pre-K Common Core Learning Standard Addressed:

PK.MATH.10 Identifies measurable attributes of objects, such as length or weight, and describes them using appropriate vocabulary

Foundational Text for the Week:

The Little Red Stroller by Joshua Furst

Link to the foundational text HERE!

Questions that will be asked throughout the week related to the foundational text:

Level 1: Recall

Where did some of the families take the little red stroller?

What did the children do with the stroller when they were too big for it?

Level 2: Skill/Concept

Why do people use strollers for babies?

When the children were too big for the stroller, they shared it with someone who was younger. How does it feel when someone shares with you?

Level 3: Strategic Thinking

How do you think the children knew when they were too big for the stroller? How do you know when you are too big for something?

Why did all the families in this book wish they had a stroller? How do you think they felt when they got the little red stroller?

Level 4: Extended Thinking

The little red stroller traveled so many places with so many children that it became very tattered and tired and it could not go on any further. What do you think happened to it when everyone was done with it? Why?
